After an overnight bus from Yazd to Mashhad, I took a taxi to cover the distance of 115km. The Wooden Mosque is situated at the Wooden Village road. The Ticket office was beside a small wall and after buying the ticket, i walked between the working agricultural fields to make my way to the Wooden Mosque.
When I was walking towards the mosque, I saw a dog in distance running towards me. I was afraid for a moment because dog was quite scary looking. It turned out to be a very friendly dog, probably he was happy to see a visitor.
The Wooden Mosque, locally known as “Chubi Masjid” is a wooden structure with two minarets rising above it. These minarets are 12m in height. Handles of the door were also made out of the wood. One had to put hand from the inside in order to open it. Ceiling was made out of wood and beautiful patterns were created in order to decorate the mosque. It is said that 40 tons of wood was used in order to build this mosque.
At the rear of the mosque, there was another building. That building was also made out of wood and it’s main door was open. It was delightfully furnished with the wooden material and it appears to be a house at first glance.
From the ground floor, stairs lead to the upper part of this wooden house. There was a room which appeared to be look like a class room with the wooden benches.
