Cobbled Streets

Faro city is located on the southern coast of Portugal. It forms the part of Algarve (comes from al-garb in Arabic) in the past, Faro was known as Uhsunubia. One of the unique feature in Portugal is designed cobbled stone streets and Faro is no exception. Even some of the streets are protected to avoid the direct sunlight in the hot summer days. Nowadays, this city hosts lots of modern buildings because it is well established holidays destination for the sun seekers.

Nowadays, this city hosts lots of modern buildings because it is well established holidays destination for the sun seekers. Avenida da Republica is located next to the Faro marina and it is one of the point most of the visitors would pass during their stay in the city. In the square, an obelisk was erected in 1910 to commemorate the diplomat Ferreira d’Almeida, one of Faro’s famous sons. Ferreira d’Almeida was a minister of naval affairs in the city. 
Jardim Manuel Bivaris is located between the dock, Arco da Vila and the beginning of street Rua de Santo António. This park has palm trees and lots of shade and also offers a pleasant walk to the old parts of Faro.

There is a small roundabout in front of the old town Faro, the garden of Manuel Bivaris is located to the right. This site offers a wonderful view of the modern and old city at the same time. Faro marina can be seen from the tower of the Faro Cathedral, it has a typical charm of Algarve coast. Ria Formosa Lagoon is known for it’s biodiversity is also visible from the top. A strange looking sculpture resemble to a mollusc shell, few steps down and there is a statue of a naked woman.
