Oak of Abraham in Hebron (al-Khalil)

The Oak of Mamre (Oak of Sibta) is also called the Tree of Abraham or Shajr-e Ibrahaim in Arabic. This tree is the location where Prophet Abraham pitched his tent and it is located on the outskirts of Hebron.

Now, the tree is not growing anymore and it is believed that this tree is over 5000 years old. The Oak withered in 1996 from time and age but two new trees sprouted the following year from the dried-up oak that still had life in its roots underground. Currently this old tree is supported by beams in order to prevent it from falling.

It is the place where Abraham received three angels and they gave him the good news that God would grant him a son and many nations would be created from his descendants.
