Agha Bozorg Mosque of Kashan was built by Ustad Haj Sa’ban Ali in the late 18th century. This mosque is one of the finest Islamic complex in Kashan, known for its precise architecture. The mosque was constructed for holding prayers and preaching sessions carried out by Mullah Mahdi Naraqi II, known as Agha Bozorg. The Agha Bozorg Mosque consists of four porches, two ornate minarets, a brilliant brick dome, and two large iwans. One of the iwans is situated in front of the mehrab, whereas the other is located near the entrance.
Architecture
It has a sunken madrassa (religious school) in one of its courtyards, madrassa is built around a central pool. The imposing dome is flanked by two minarets adorned with coloured tiles in geometric designs. Koranic calligraphy and mosaics adorn the dome and the mehrab area of the mosque. Mehrab of the mosque doesn’t have bright colours but it suits the colour of the bricks used in the construction of this mosque. The cobbled veranda & brick walls of the mosque make it look simple yet elegant. Three main colours used in this mosque are blue, red and yellow but here a tint of green and black can also be seen.
