Amir Chakhmaq Complex in Yazd

Amir Chakhmaq Complex has a beautiful mosque located in a square with the same name. This amazing looking  complex was built by Amir Jalaleddin Chakhmaq, a governor of Yazd in the 16th century.

It houses a caravansarai, a tekyeh (used for religious gatherings) and a bathhouse. There are arcades on the side but they have been added recently in order to protect the square from the traffic. In the square, there were also few graves, which belong to unnamed fighters of the Iran-Iraq War.

A wooden structure on one side of the square is called nakhl and people use it during the Ashura Period. This nakhl is over 200 years old and is no longer moved. During Ashura, it is draped in a black cover for a day or two around the celebrations to represent the mourning of Imam Hussain.

Baadgirs of old water reservoir (aab anbar) can be seen from the square.
