I was walking on the eastern side of the River Nile in Luxor city, on the opposite side of the river there are the mountains of the Valley of the Kings. Sun was going down on the Nile and I was walking fast because I had arranged a boat trip with a guy whom I met earlier in the day.
It was very quiet Evening in Luxor and it was mainly due to the fact that less visitors were coming to this city due to the fragile security situation of Egypt. As soon as I was onboard, a young boy started to unfasten the ropes of the wooden sail boat which was to bring me to the open waters of the Nile. Then the boy came on board also and he was he was pushing the boat away into the open water by holding the ropes on other boats.
A quiet River in the Evening
There was no breeze on that evening so the services of this captain were hired to pull the sail boat into the open waters. The Nile River is 6853km in length and this mighty river begins it’s journey from the Lake Victoria bordering Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. The two main rivers called the White Nile and the Blue Nile join in Sudan to form this great river. The traditional wooden boats with long sale are called felucca and they can have one or two lateen sails. The captain of my boat saw a spider, which was hanging from the sail and captain started to play with that tiny creature as his new hobby. He told me that the Nile trip once was very popular among tourists but now his livelihood was at risk.
