The Church of All Nations is located on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem, beside the Garden of Gethsemane. It is also known as the Church or Basilica of the Agony. In the past, a 4th-century Byzantine basilica existed here before it’s destruction in an earthquake in the year 746 CE. In the 12th century,a Crusader chapel was built here but that was abandoned in 1345. Current building dates from 1919 and it was built by the donations from different nations, hence its name suggests.I
Religious Importance
The coat of arms of 12 countries that contributed to the cost of the current building’s constructions are added in the church ceiling. The rock where Jesus prayed before his arrest is enclosed inside. As per religious text he was arrested by the Roman soldiers in the following morning. The Church of All Nations is a popular destination of pilgrims who come to Jerusalem to seek spiritual guidance or to understand the history of this city.
