Haifa Gardens are also known as the Terraces of the Bahá’í Faith, other name given to these gardens is the Hanging Gardens of Haifa. These gardens are located on the slopes of the Mount Carmel. The slopes of the Mount Carmel provide spectacular views of the city, gardens and the Haifa Bay. An Iranian architect Fariborz Sahba started to work on these terraces in 1987. The gardens are linked by the sets of terraces, hence the name suggests and they are almost one kilometer in length. In total, there are eighteen terraces in total and the nineteenth one belong to the shrine of Baha’ullah.
Shrine
There is a walkway in the middle of the Gardens and the twin streams of water runs downwards on the slopes. The gardens of the Terraces are irrigated by a computer controlled system. This system works with the local weather and the requirement of the gardens. The shrine of Baha’ullah is located in middle of the Terraces. Baha’ullah was a Persian and he was the founder of the Bahai faith. Haifa city port runs almost 3 kilometers along the city’s central shore and it is one of the largest ports in the eastern Mediterranean. The Hanging Gardens of Haifa has numerous plant species and it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
