Tomb & Mosque of Imamzade Alauddin Hussain

The mosque of Imamzade Alauddin Hussain bin Imam Musa al-Kazim is only 5 minutes walk away from the famous shrine of Shah Chirag. This shrine (mosque) is located in the south-east of Shiraz. Syed Alauddin Hussain was the brother of Imam Raza (A.S) and a brother of Imamzade Ahmad and Muhammad which are buried at Shah Chirag.

While I was taking photos of the building, I was approached by a very angry guy who warned me not to take the photos. I explained to him that I was a tourist and I wanted to share the beauty of this mosque with other people. He allowed me to take the photos of the exterior (actually, he felt little embarrassed at the end of our conversation (if i can call it).

This is the main porch of the shrine and it is decorated with the bright coloured tiles

Shah Chirag

Shah Chirag houses the tomb of the brothers Ahmad and Muhammad, sons of Musa al-Kazim. Shah-e-Cheragh is Persian for “King of the Light”. The site was given this name due to the nature of the discovery of the site by Ayatullah Dastghaib. As the story goes, around 900 CE a mysterious light shining off in the distance and he went to investigate. He found a luminous grave that, when excavated, was found to hold the armored corpse of an important Muslim figure. The body was wearing a ring saying al-‘Izzatu Lillah, Ahmad bin Musa, meaning “The Pride belongs to God, Ahmad son of Musa”.

Thus the site became a popular pilgrimage site for Shia Muslims, and a domed tomb structure was created to house the grave.
