The museum initially opened in Saint Irene Church initially. Later in 1950, it was moved to the First Army Headquarters building in Cumhuriyet Caddesi in Harbiye district. Istanbul Military Museum is situated inside an old Ottoman building known as maktab-e Harbie. It used to educate the military officer but now this two storey building is a military museum. In Turkish language it is known as Askeri Muze.
Ottoman bronze cannon
This cannon was used during the Siege of Constantinople in 1453. A gun maker from, then Kingdom of Hungary (modern day Brasso, Romania) made this supergun for the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II.
A Krupp Mark fixed cannon was used during the WWI in Dardanelles campaign. It was a German made cannon and formed a vital part of the Turkish defence against the invading allies. Kahraman Nefer Seyyid was a Turkish soldier and he is believed to have carried 276kg shell in the WWI.
Light tank T-26B was a Soviet infantry tank which was used by the Turkish army in 1934.
F-104 Starfighter
Lockheed F-104 Starfighter was not a good fit with the U.S. Air Force, which took fewer than 300 examples on strength but this fighter jet enjoyed great success in the export market with more than 2,200 serving aircraft serving in foreign air arms. Turkish Air Force was one of them who bought these jets and used in many campaigns.
