The name of the Ramses Railway Station in Cairo comes from the statue of Ramses II which was erected outside the station in 1955. Also known as the Misr Train Station, the original railway station was built in 1856 but current building was constructed in 1892. The station was renovated and upgraded between 2001 – 2011.
The building is known for its Heliopolis Style exterior yet unfortunately, its interior was heavily modernized till its identity is quite lost in between the two styles. Its interior was redone with gaudy Dubai-mall aesthetics in a massive refit completed in 2014.
