Shrine of Imamzadeh Mahruq is located at southeast of Nishapur. The building which has the grave of Imam Mahruq contains another grave which belongs to Imamzadeh Ibrahim. The shrine itself is next to the mausoleum of Omar Khayyam but in order to get inside one needs to go to main road after visiting Omer Khayyam’s tomb.
The imamzadeh buried here is the son of the 4th Shia Imam Sajjad. The word mahruq itself means ” the Burnt One”, it refers to the death of this imamzadeh, who was burnt by the Abbasids of Baghdad.
This place is famous among the Shias who come here to pray at the grave of this holy man. In a glass case, there is a footprint of 8th Imam Raza (A.S.).
