Tahrir Square of Cairo is also known as “Martyr Square”. In the morning this square can be very quiet but later in the day it can be jammed pack with traffic and people. The square is the northern terminus of the historic Qasr al-Ayni Street, the western terminus of Talaat Harb Street, and via Qasr al-Nil Street crossing its southern portion it has direct access to the Qasr al-Nil Bridge.
What I found amazing about this large roundabout was that people were crossing it at very ease in the middle of traffic. This square has witnessed many violent protests in the past, resulting in many deaths. Tahrir Square was the main location for the political demonstrations of 2011 Egyptian Revolution in Cairo which lasted for months. A burnt out headquarter of NDP (National Democratic Party) is close to this famous square.
The area around Tahrir Square includes the Egyptian Museum, the House of Folklore, the NDP headquarters and Arab League Headquarters to name few.
